Jesus the Bread of Life

SCRIPTURE

"And Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.'" — John 6:35 (NKJV)

TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

The crowd had just witnessed the miracle of five loaves and two fish feeding five thousand people, and they came looking for more bread. Jesus redirected their hunger from the physical to the eternal — I am the bread of life. Bread is the most basic of foods, the foundational nourishment without which a body cannot sustain itself. By declaring Himself the Bread of Life, Jesus was saying that He is not a spiritual luxury for those who are already doing well — He is the basic, essential nourishment without which the human soul cannot truly live.

The promise He attaches to this name is extraordinary: whoever comes to Him shall never hunger, and whoever believes in Him shall never thirst. Not reduced hunger — never hunger. This is a promise of deep, lasting satisfaction that no earthly thing can provide. The restlessness that drives people to pursue achievement, pleasure, recognition, and accumulation is the soul's hunger for something only Jesus can provide. When you find your nourishment in Him, the frantic search for fulfilment in other places loses its power.

Call on Jesus today as the Bread of Life. Come to Him with your hunger — not just your spiritual needs but every area of your life where you feel insufficient, depleted, or unsatisfied. He who multiplied bread to feed thousands will not withhold nourishment from the soul that comes to Him. Feed on His Word, His presence, and His promises today. The Bread of Life is not rationed — come, eat, and be fully satisfied.
