Jesus Our Advocate

"My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." — 1 John 2:1 (NKJV)

An advocate is someone who stands in your corner — who pleads your case, defends your cause, and speaks on your behalf in the court where your outcome will be decided. John uses this word to describe what Jesus does for us before the Father. When we fail, when we sin, when the accuser of the brethren brings his charges against us, Jesus does not leave us to defend ourselves. He steps forward as our Advocate — and not just any advocate, but Jesus Christ the righteous. He defends us on the basis of His own righteousness, not ours.

There is a profound comfort in knowing that our standing before God does not rest on our performance but on our Advocate. The enemy is relentless in his accusations — reminding God, reminding us, and reminding others of every failure, every weakness, and every sin. But the Advocate is more relentless still. He stands in the very presence of the Father and pleads the case of His blood. The blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel — it speaks forgiveness, reconciliation, and acceptance.

Call on Jesus today as your Advocate. Do not allow guilt, condemnation, or the memory of past failures to keep you from the Father. You have an Advocate — and He has never lost a case. His advocacy is not based on pretending you are sinless; it is based on the fact that He has paid the full price for your sin and risen to secure your complete acquittal. Stand in the confidence of His advocacy today and walk in the freedom of one whose case has already been won.
